'Islamic finance can fill social funds gap'

Bahrain has the unique opportunity to position itself as a resource-influencer in the use of Islamic finance to achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), a top UN official has said.

According to UN Resident Co-ordinator and UN Secretary General’s representative in Bahrain Amin El Sharkawi, the kingdom can take on a much bigger role beyond just resource mobilisation.

“Using its long-standing credentials as a banking hub, Bahrain can partner with the UN to align Islamic finance with the SDGs in a fair, transparent, quantifiable and verifiable manner,” he told the GDN in an exclusive interview.
